A friend in deed

Every so often the Chairman of any organisation is called upon to perform a function that they would rather they did not have to, for one reason or another.  This situation arose at the Friends AGM this year.

Many of our readers and helpers will know the name of Miss Jean Low who for many years has been the compiler and editor of the Friends’ newsletter among her other duties. Unfortunately for us, Jean has taken the decision to stand down as a Trustee after 10 years service.

During her 10 years she has held a number of official  positions within the organisation.  She has at various times been Secretary, Treasurer and Editor and has always been willing to take up the slack whenever we had an officer retire from the Committee.  She has been a mine of information and has always been fiercely protective of the Friends’ funds, making sure it has been used for the betterment of the animals.  I believe that were she to be broken in half you would find The Friends of Bath Cats and Dogs Home written right through the middle.

I am pleased to say that Jean will not be completely disappearing as she intends to continue her work at fund-raising events where she, together with her sister Sonya will no doubt continue with their jewellery and jam stall.

In recognition of her contribution to the work of  The Friends, the Trustees and Committee members clubbed together, on behalf of all the Friends, to make a presentation to Jean at the AGM.

The presentation was of a Dartington glass vase engraved with the words -“Presented to MISS JEAN LOW by THE FRIENDS OF BATH CATS AND DOGS HOME in recognition of her outstanding contribution and work on behalf of the Charity.  We also gave her a large bunch of flowers to put in the vase.
